ABOUT UNDERBELLY
Underbelly is a UK-based live entertainment company founded in 2000 by Ed Bartlam and Charlie Wood that specialises in producing and programming ground-breaking theatrical productions and the creation of city-centre cultural events and festivals across the UK, USA, Asia & beyond. Underbelly, alongside ATG Productions, is the lead and originating producer of the Olivier Award winning Cabaret at the Kit Kat Club, now in its third year in the West End.

Recent productions also include Macbeth starring Ralph Fiennes and Indira Varma, The McOnie Company’s Nutcracker at the Tuff Nutt Jazz Club at Southbank Centre, La Clique in Manchester & London, Cabaret Royale at the Gaillard Center in Charleston and the inaugural headline show at Underbelly Boulevard, Club Kabarett.

Underbelly Boulevard, our first permanent venue, opened in 2023 in the heart of Soho presenting and producing an outstanding variety of cabaret, comedy, circus, music and theatre.

Current live Events are Christmas in Leicester Square, Skate West End and Underbelly Festival, previously on London’s Southbank, at Earl’s Court and in Cavendish Square.

In 2024, Underbelly will produce The McOnie Company’s The Artist, Tweedy’s Massive Circus beginning a UK-wide tour at the RSC in Stratford-upon-Avon and the 20th anniversary of La Clique in Edinburgh and London.

One of the largest producers at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, Underbelly is proud to have previously presented Fleabag in 2013, Six in 2018, Rob Madge’s My Son’s a Queer, (But What Can You Do?) in 2022 and Kathy & Stella Solve a Murder in 2023.

 

THE ROLE

Based in our London office, you’ll be an integral part of our marketing team, managing the campaign strategy and rollout of specific events produced by Underbelly.

Key projects for this role in 2024 will be Underbelly at the Edinburgh Fringe, Skate West End, Christmas in Leicester Square and La Clique. This will involve travel to Edinburgh in Spring / Summer, including August on ground at the Festival (this can be flexible for the right candidate). Additional support could also be required for Underbelly Festival and Tweedy’s Massive Circus.

This includes developing the campaign and audience strategy, budget management, deals with ticket agency, poster design and rollout, paid media planning and tracking, emails to Underbelly mailing lists, website management, brand partnership implementation, photo shoot and media moment management and more depending on the campaign.

You’ll be the key point of contact alongside the head of marketing and programming team for agencies – media, design, PR – as well as any producers and stakeholders involved in the project.

Future projects could include creating brands from scratch, working with producers or key stakeholders to develop the initial creative and audience strategy.

We are looking for someone who is creative, diligent and a self-starter. There will be aspects of this role where you will be the main strategic lead, but there are also times where you need to be involved in the nitty gritty tasks. No two days will be the same.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Strategically developing full-scale marketing campaigns based on ticket targets, set budget and timelines.
  • Developing the existing brands you are responsible for, including evolving artwork and growing audiences to achieved key sales KPIs.
  • Work with external agencies – media, creative, design, PR to rollout campaign of high quality.
  • Work within specific timelines set by the Edinburgh Fringe Society for the Festival
  • Working with the Social Media and Content Officer to create content to amplify your campaigns.
  • Working with the press team on earned media opportunities.
  • Working with our shows to maximise their coverage across Underbelly marketing channels.
  • Manage the relevant event websites.
  • Create and maintain onsite signage of the festival or show in collobaration with the production department, creating assets in house using Adobe Creative Suite where required.
  • Attend regular meetings with internal and external teams to assure the marketing campaigns are performing to their maximum capacity.
  • Work with on-site teams to support on the exemplary running of relevant spaces including box office, F&B, site management and technical staff.
  • Manage separate budgets for each campaign.
  • Work with the head of marketing to hire any relevant festival or event staff.
  • Co-manage two junior members of staff, alongside the head of marketing.

THINGS WE ARE LOOKING FOR

  • An experienced marketer with good knowledge of full scope marketing campaigns
  • A background in a ticket sale focused environment such as events, festivals, live music, touring comedy/theatre and venues will be advantageous.
  • A keen interest in the live entertainment industry is a must.
  • Experience managing marketing budgets and tracking this to KPIs.
  • Sales focused with good analytical skills and the ability to interpret marketing analytics and make recommendations for improvements.
  • Awareness of London and Fringe cultural sectors.
  • The the ability to make recommendations on ticket pricing based on key show revenue targets.
  • High attention to detail is crucial, as is strong copywriting skills.
  • Good knowledge and experience working with social media, paid and organic.
  • Creative thinker and problem solver.
  • Experience in a fast-paced environment and often pressurised environment.
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Experience using CMS-based websites.
  • Experience and working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, InDesign, Photoshop, and film editing skills would be an advantage.
  • Experience managing more junior members of a team is a bonus.
